Letchworth State Park Hike/Run in the Fall

Though it was my sixth or seventh visit to the state park in the past one year, this visit was one to cherish for a couple of major reasons! First, the fall colors add amazing magnificence to the place. Second, I got to train for my run by doing a hike/run in the park for close to 15 miles!

Though I visited the place with hundreds of other international students from UB, I chose spend my time alone doing some training for my upcoming Niagara Falls full marathon on October 26th.

There was a prediction of rain and I had dressed suitable for that. I took a bottle of Powerade along with few protein bars and chocolates.

I wanted to move away from the crowd to begin with and hence, I got upto the Upper Falls and went out of the park through the Portageville Entrance. Ran for a while towards the order side of the river to reach the Parade Grounds entrance. Entered the Park through the entrance and went to the starting point of Trail 6, before heading back. I then took Trail 7 to view the middle falls and upper falls from the other side of the river! Though not much of a challenging trail, this particular trail was extremely colorful and provided a great view of the gorge and the falls.

After finishing the hiking trail, I continued running and headed back into the park via the Portageville entrance and ran till the parking lot where the buses were parked. Trashed the empty Powerade bottle and picked up a new bottle from my bag and continued to hike/run. The next point which was wonderful for taking pictures was the Inspiration Point. It provided an amazing view of the gorge with the middle falls and the upper falls in a straight line. I went all the way up to the Lower Falls Restaurant which was a few miles down from there. I took a 15 minute rest there before going uphill to the starting point.

The following is the map of my hike/run at the Letchworth State Park.

There are quite a few hiking trails in Letchworth and I was quite satisfied having hiked quite a few of them and also to have visited a section of the park that I had never been to. It was an extremely beautiful sight viewing the falls, gorge and the mighty river. No wonder it is called the Grand Canyon of the East! Places like these in WNY and Upstate NY are said to be great for enjoying the fall colors.

Here are few of the clicks that I uploaded to Instagram. Planning to share the rest of them soon after the auto-sync feature is fixed again.
